iFilm exclusive on opening of Cinéma vérité

iFilm exclusive report on the opening ceremony of the 10th Iran International Documentary Film Festival – Cinéma vérité held in the capital city of Tehran.

Below is a transcription of the report's highlights.

iFilm: We’re here for the 10th Iran International Documentary Film Festival, Cinema Verite.‌ Like previous years, this year’s festival has been warmly welcomed.

Tabatabaeinejad, Festival director: Fortunately the 10th Iran International documentary Film Festival is being held at a time when Iranian documentaries have been accredited internationally due to the artistic flare and creativity of the documentary filmmakers throughout Iran.

The awards that documentary filmmakers have recently won from different and credible film festivals across the world are proof to my word. Aside from these achievements, there has been an increase in audience and that has to be taken into consideration.

Luckily the attention to the documentaries as an educational platform has increased in our society. The more the society pays attention to documentaries the more that society can be described as one which is inclined toward development.

Razzaq Karimi, documentary filmmaker: I hope that a decade of this festival is proof of its strength. Documentaries have recently become much better in previous years.

Farkhondeh Kish, Head of Iranian Youth Cinema Society: The documentary film festival, Cinema Verite, is one of the utmost important festivals held in the country. From the very beginning this festival has been successful because of the precise planning that has taken place.

Manouchehr Tayyab, documentary filmmaker: The documentary cinema is not something special. It has different aspects. As you can see, it has attracted people with different tastes. It includes different subjects and forms and each of these takes its own direction. But now that we have gathered all of them under the umbrella of ‘documentary festival’, it’s a good opportunity for all of the films that are made with great difficulty to be showcased in an organized way.

iFilm: Cinema Verite is the only film festival that is exclusive to documentaries and it tries to familiarize people with documentaries. In this edition, eight workshops will be held at Charsou Cinema Complex.
